Part Time Busing Fee Proposal

The Charter Board of Westmount Charter School has given us permission to investigate the possibility of offering a part time busing fee for those families who only require busing one way, to or from Westmount Charter School.  The overall financial impact of this proposed fee on our transportation system needs to be determined before a decision can be made on whether or not we can go ahead with this option.

In an effort to do this, we would like to know how many of our school families would be seriously interested in using the bus part time.  The following conditions would apply to part time busing:

1. Part-time riders will be considered only if there is room on the bus.  First priority for seats will go to full-time riders.
2. Part-time riders may only ride in the AM or the PM, not a combination of both.
3.  Part-time riders must choose from an existing stop on an existing route.  Additional stops will not be created for part time riders.
4. The fee would be $400 and there will be no refunds on part time busing fees.
5. If you choose to use the bus part time you will forfeit your parent provided transportation funding from the government. 

If you think this is an option that your family would seriously consider for the 2008-09 school year, please complete the application form (click here to download) and fax it to 403-249-3422, attention Karen Shaul by August 18, 2008.  Once we have received all of the interested applicants we can then determine what the financial impact of this fee will be to our current transportation system and make an informed decision as to whether we can implement this or not.  If we do proceed, we will determine how many spots will be made available on each route for part- time busing and all applicants will be handled on a first come, first serve basis. 

It is important that all families, whether you are registered for busing for the 2008-09 or you have chosen the parent provided funding, complete this application if you are seriously interested in riding part time (one way) only.

Applications for part-time ridership from our current bus registrants for 2008-09 will not be accepted after August 18th so if you are registered for busing for next year and you do not express a serious interest with part- time busing, it will be assumed that you will continue with busing at the full time fee.  If you are not sure what your transportation choice for 2008-09 is you may find this by logging into the online registration system and it will tell you what choice you made on the right hand side.
