WESTMOUNT CHARTER SCHOOLWestmount Charter School accepts applications for Grade six through eight students for the next school year on a limited basis, according to space availability. Our classes are full for 2008-2009.
TO APPLY FOR THE 2009-2010 SCHOOL YEAR:
Step 1: Information evening
Students and parents are invited to an open house on Tuesday, February 10, 2009, from 7:00-8:30 PM. At this time the Westmount program and philosophy will be outlined, and teachers will be on hand to answer grade-or-subject-specific questions.
There are several hundred parents and students attending this open house each year. If you are interested in applying for Westmount, please make a point of attending this meeting; it is not possible for us to conduct individual information sessions, given the volume of applicants.
Application packages will be available ON-LINE ONLY. Forms will be available for download from this site beginning February 10th, 2009, commencing at 9:00 PM MST. Applications will be accepted electronically, or in person beginning 9:00 AM February 11th, 2009.
Step 2: Application
Application
packages MUST be fully completed with all documents attached, and received by the school no later than February 27th, 2009. (NOTE: In order for applications to be considered after February 27th, they must be accompanied by a Psychological/Educational Assessment).
The following documents must accompany your application package:
- photocopy of school Report Cards (current and previous year), Attendance Records, and if applicable, a current IPP
- photocopy of Birth Certificate, Immunization Records and Immigration Papers
(if applicable)
- recent photo of student (optional)
- Psychological/Educational Assessments (if applicable; required of late applicants)
- any relevant medical information on your child (e.g. allergies or medical conditions plus details of all required treatments or accommodations)
- completed applications may be faxed to 403.249.3412,
scanned and emailed to registrar@westmountcharter.com,
or
delivered in person to the school at 2519 Richmond Road SW, Calgary AB T3E 4M2
Step 3: Assessment Process
All applications will be reviewed by the Selection Committee. All applicants will be required to participate in our Student Intake Assessment process.
- Students applying for grades 6 to 8 will be required to attend a full day of activities at the school on Friday, March 6th, 2009. Room assignments will be given beginning at 8:45 AM, and the assessment activities will run from 9:00 AM to 2:45 PM.
After students have completed the Student Intake Assessment, a final decision will be made by the Selection Committee, as to program suitability.
Step 4: Notification of Decision
All applicants will be notified in writing of the Selection Committee’s decision. If an offer is made, families are required to complete the online acceptance/registration process and pay a non-refundable $100 deposit to confirm their acceptance at Westmount. Deadlines will be clearly stated when the spaces are offered.
Students entering grades 6-12 will fill out Course Selection Forms (click here to download gr 6-8 forms, available March 2009) once their deposit has been paid.
Step 5: Information Follow-Up
Families that will be joining us in the coming school year need to notify us of any changes/additions to their child’s personal information. Examples may be: address, home/work phone numbers, e-mail addresses, custody issues, emergency contacts, medical conditions, allergies, and any psychological or educational reports. In order for us to better serve your family’s needs, it is imperative that the school be made aware of any changes.
