Elementary Grades: Registration Procedure for Grades 1-5

Westmount Charter School accepts applications for Grade one through five students for the next school year. We have four classes for grade one and we follow Alberta Education's "Class Size Initiative" guidelines. For grades two through five we typically have limited space. At present, our elementary grades are over-subscribed for the 2008-2009 school year.

PLEASE NOTE: the following information pertains to the current school year. Dates and procedures have not yet been set for students wishing to apply for the 2009-2010 school year.

Step 1: Information evening
Parents are invited to an open house on February 5, 2008 at 7:00 PM. At this time, the Westmount program will be explained and teachers will be available to answer grade-specific questions.

Application packages will be available ONLINE ONLY from this site beginning February 5th, 2008 at 9:00 PM. Applications will be accepted beginning February 6th, 2008, 9:00 AM.

Step 2: Application
Application packages MUST be fully completed with all documents attached, and received by the school no later than February 28th, 2008. (NOTE: In order for applications to be considered after February 28th, they must be accompanied by a Psychological/Educational Assessment).

The following documents must accompany your application package:
- photocopy of school Report Cards (current and previous year), Attendance Records, and if applicable, a current IPP
- photocopy of Birth Certificate, Immunization Records and Immigration Papers (if applicable)
- recent photo of student (optional)
- Psychological/Educational Assessments (if applicable; required of late applicants)
- any relevant medical information on your child (e.g. allergies or medical conditions plus details of all required treatments or accommodations)
- completed applications may be faxed to 403.249.3412,
scanned and emailed to registrar@westmountcharter.com, or
delivered in person to the school at 2519 Richmond Road SW, Calgary AB T3E 4M2

Step 3: Assessment Process
All applications will be reviewed by the Selection Committee. All applicants will be required to participate in our Student Intake Assessment process.
- Students applying for grades 1 to 8 will be required to attend a full day of activities at the school on Friday, March 7th, 2008. Room assignments will be given beginning at 8:45 AM, and the assessment activities will run from 9:00 AM to 2:45 PM. After students have completed the Student Intake Assessment, a final decision will be made by the Selection Committee, as to program suitability.

Step 4: Notification of Decision
All applicants will be notified in writing of the Selection Committee’s decision. If an offer is made, families are required to complete the online acceptance form and pay a $100 non-refundable deposit to confirm their acceptance at Westmount.

Step 5: Information Follow-Up
Families that will be joining us in the coming school year need to notify us of any changes/additions to their child’s personal information. Examples may be: address, home/work phone numbers, e-mail addresses, custody issues, emergency contacts, medical conditions, allergies, and any psychological or educational reports. In order for us to better serve your family’s needs, it is imperative that the school be made aware of any changes.
